Magnolia | 18th May 2014 | 18:00 hrs
A Benefit Concert Supporting Human Rights for Women in cooperation with the American International Women’s Club of Cologne
Robin Meloy Goldsby: pianist and author | special guests: Julia Goldsby, John Goldsby, Kathy Wilhelm, and Carol Habich-Traut
Robin Meloy Goldsby celebrates the arrival of spring with piano music from her recording, Magnolia, and stories from her books Piano Girl and Waltz of the Asparagus People. Full of optimism and gentle power, Goldsby’s original compositions echo the subtle change of seasons, while her interpretations of familiar melodies reflect the passing of time. Her stories mirror the happiness of springtime: new life, new love, and long afternoons in the park. Goldsby has appeared on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland. Robin often serves as a cultural ambassador for transatlantic relations. In July 2012, she performed for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt in Berlin. She has presented her reading/concert program for numerous U.S. Consulates and Embassies in Europe; for Amerika Haus, e.V. NRW; for Steinway in New York, Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Vienna; and for the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas (FAWCO) in Marrakesh, Vilnius, Stockholm, and Dublin. As an author, Goldsby is the recipient of a Publishers’ Weekly starred review.

Beautiful Ballads | 22nd June 2014 | 18:00 hrs
Ludwig Nuss, trombone (WDR Big Band)
Michael Abene, piano (WDR Big Band)
There are certain songs which inspire us, which provides us with space to communicate and encourage us to turn our inside out. Songs which you are playing when the day is long gone and the first bottle of red win is finished some time ago.
Michael Abene is the master of the American Songbook, a genius pianist, arranger. Ludwig Nuss is a trombonist, which is able to sing along with his instrument.
By a longterm cooperation within the WDR Big Band or within CD projects by Ludwig Nuss, at which Michael Abene took part as pianist and arranger, their understanding for music has grown, while they still create and interpret each song individually.
After each concert you can enjoy a special concert dinner menue in our French Brasserie Coq au Vin.
Price per person:
32,00 EUR for a 2-course-menue
39,00 EUR for a 3-course-menue
